Graduated from St. Albans High School (WV); earned a B.S. in Physical Education from West Virginia State College and a Master's in Special Education/Behavior Disorders from Marshall University.


Coach Burdette is in his 16th year here at Waccamaw where he spent his first 2 years in PE and is in his 14th year of special services.  Before coming to Waccamaw, he spent 14 years in West Virginia, having taught 4 years of middle school followed by 10 years of high school.  This will be Coach Burdette's 30th year in education.


Coach Burdette began his teaching/coaching career at Winfield Middle (WV) in 1986 where he spent one year.  He then moved to Van High School (WV) for 2 years where he began his high school football coaching career.  He then spent 2 years at Lancaster High (SC) where he coached JV football, wrestling, and girl's track.  Upon leaving Lancaster, he moved back to West Virginia to accept the position of offensive line coach at West Virginia State College, where he worked for 4 seasons (1990-93).  He then accepted a teaching and coaching position at Nitro High School (WV) where after 2 years he was named the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director.  In his first three seasons as head football coach, Nitro went 30-6, including a perfect 14-0 season in 1998 where his team won the AAA State Championship.  He also served as the girl's assistant basketball coach where they played for but lost a AAA championship in 2002.

Coach Burdette moved his family to Pawleys Island in the fall of 2002 where he accepted a PE job as well as an assistant football and head girl's basketball job.  He was an assistant football coach here for 10 seasons.  He coached the girls for his first 6 seasons and then helped form the wrestling program where he spent 3 seasons.  He then coached the girl's basketball program for another 3 seasons before stepping out of coaching.

Coach Burdette lives in Pawleys Island with his wife Betty.  They have 2 sons who both graduated from WHS as well as Clemson University.  Alex (25) received his degree in Parks Recreation Tourism Management in May 2015 and is currently employed coaching professional football in the European Football League for the La Courneuve Flash near Paris.  Jay (23) graduated from Clemson in May 2017 with a degree in Accounting and is attending Clemson's graduate school in Greenville, SC to earn a Masters in Professional Accountancy.  Jay has accepted a job offer with Price Waterhouse Coopers and will work in Atlanta, Georgia.
